From April 7 to 11, 2026, San Pedro de Atacama will once again be filled with music, culture, and community gatherings with the second edition of the Festival de los Vientos. This event combines concerts, educational activities, and artistic interventions in schools and local communities. It is “an opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of the territory through music and the versatility of wind instruments, uniting tradition with contemporary artistic expressions.
” The festival has been funded again by the National Music Promotion Fund, 2026 call from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, becoming for the second consecutive year the only project selected from the Antofagasta Region in its category. For the organizing team, this recognition validates the work done in the first edition and reaffirms their commitment to the cultural development of the community. For this new edition, the festival will expand its territorial reach, bringing activities to locations in the southern sector of the Salar de Atacama and strengthening ties with local communities, especially with students and the elderly.
The artistic program will feature musicians from San Pedro de Atacama, Calama, Antofagasta, and Concepción, creating a dialogue between Andean traditions, Latin American popular music, and contemporary expressions. Among the highlights of the festival is the performance of Salvaje Son (Concepción) alongside the local group Flores de Tambor, who will perform a repertoire of Afro-Colombian folklore, which is uncommon for the local audience. The festival will also incorporate improvements in technical production, the participation of the local craft fair Ckunza Ckapar, and the installation of a Punto Morado during the main concert day in the civic plaza, aimed at preventing gender violence.

The festival's artistic lineup is built around three pillars: the presence of wind instruments, artistic quality, and genre diversity, integrating proposals ranging from brass bands, lakitas, and Andean music to hip hop, rock jazz, boleros, Latin music, and Afro-Colombian rhythms. The formative and community work is one of the festival's cornerstones, with activities designed to bring music closer to children, youth, and adults, promoting access to culture and recognition of the musical diversity of the territory, as well as the fundamental role of wind instruments in the history of music. The festival is an independent initiative by cultural managers, made possible through funding from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, and support from local institutions such as the Municipality of San Pedro de Atacama, the parish of the community, the El Tambo Cultural Center, the Culture Foundation, various Atacameña indigenous communities, and media outlets.
