The President of the Republic, José Antonio Kast, announced the appointment of lawyer Ignacio Malig as the new national director of the National Corporation for Indigenous Development (Conadi), a position he will assume immediately. Malig had previously led the institution from June 2019 to May 2022, after being appointed through the Public High Management System. During that period, he was responsible for coordinating the internal functioning of the corporation at both national and regional levels, as well as presiding over its National Council and coordinating work with ministers and undersecretaries on indigenous public policies.

In his previous management, he also served as the representative of the State of Chile before the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC), participated before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, and presented before the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination of the United Nations in Geneva. Following his appointment, Malig valued the new challenge, stating that "at a time when order and transparency are vital, the urgency with which we must work requires knowledge in indigenous and administrative matters, in which I hope to contribute with my experience in the institution. " He also recalled his previous time at CONADI, highlighting that "when I was national director, I worked together with hundreds of communities and indigenous associations across the country and with the 11 indigenous peoples, during such difficult times as the pandemic.

" The new director is a lawyer from the University of La Frontera and holds an MBA in public high management from the same institution. He has a 17-year career in the public sector, where he has served as the regional minister of Justice and Human Rights in La Araucanía (2018-2019), chief of staff at CONADI (2010-2014), and grants prosecutor at the Ministry of Education of Chile. Additionally, he has worked in the academic and private sectors, focusing on advisory roles in indigenous matters and dialogue and consultation processes.
