An operation by Carabineros de Chile led to the arrest of eight people accused of being part of a gang dedicated to violent crimes in the capital, mainly vehicle thefts using the "encerrona" method. The procedure was the result of an investigation conducted in conjunction with the Public Prosecutor's Office, which included the raiding of nine homes in the northern sector of Santiago. According to the information, all those arrested are Chilean, of legal age, and are linked to crimes such as violations of the arms law, drug trafficking, receiving stolen goods, and smuggling, in addition to having active arrest warrants.
Gang linked to multiple crimes The investigation established that the group operated in northern and eastern areas of the capital and was involved in at least 20 violent crimes recorded in the last three months. Additionally, the participation of one of the accused is being investigated in a case where a member of the Chilean Police Investigations was injured while thwarting a crime, an incident in which there was also a fatality. Prosecutor José Morales stated that "a gang dedicated to car theft has been dismantled, and they also participated in home robberies.
It is a quite dangerous gang, as they have even shot at people and have taken possession of various vehicles. " For his part, Colonel Rodrigo Arroyo explained that "they managed to intervene in nine homes in the northern sector of the Metropolitan Region (... ) This procedure is directly related to different violent crimes that affected the vehicle fleet, specifically in the last three months.
" The eight detainees were made available to the judiciary and were subjected to detention control during the day on Friday, while investigations continue to clarify their involvement in other crimes.
