During the inauguration of the international fair Aquasur 2026, the president of SalmonChile, Patricio Melero, along with members of the executive committee of SalmonChile (Multi X, Salmones Austral, Camanchaca, and Blumar), held a working meeting with the United States ambassador to Chile, Brandon Judd. The meeting, held at the Multi X offices in Puerto Montt, addressed topics of mutual interest, highlighting the strategic value of salmon farming for the country and the strengthening of bilateral trade agreements. During the meeting, the current landscape of national salmon farming was presented, along with its contribution to the economic and social development of Chile, as well as opportunities for growth and collaboration with the U.
S. market, the main destination for national salmon exports. “Chile has proven to be a reliable partner for the United States for over three decades.
Our trade relationship in this area has not only been long-lasting but has strengthened over time due to the high standards of quality and sustainability that characterize our production. In this context, we had a close and frank discussion about the effects of the new tariffs imposed by the United States on Chile, which reinforces the importance of continuing to strengthen a constructive and long-term dialogue between both countries,” said the president of SalmonChile, Patricio Melero. The meeting is particularly significant considering that the United States recently updated its nutritional recommendations, promoting greater consumption of high-quality proteins and healthy fats, such as those provided by salmon.
These new guidelines aim to address public health challenges facing the country, such as hypertension and obesity, conditions that can be mitigated with a balanced diet that includes fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
