The government has "paused" the dismissal of the director of the National Service for Women and Gender Equality (SernamEG), Priscilla Carrasco, due to the submission of a medical leave. It is important to remember that Carrasco's departure generated significant controversy in various sectors, considering that she is undergoing medical treatment for breast cancer. According to what was stated to Radio Pauta by the Minister of the Interior, Claudio Alvarado, the decision to remove Carrasco was initially made "with the information available at the time.
" However, he commented that "in recent hours a new element emerged": Carrasco submitted a medical leave. The authority stated that the medical document from the SernamEG director was presented after she had been dismissed, but with an effective date prior to the notification of the cessation of her duties. "The ministry received a medical leave that apparently would have retroactive effects," Alvarado stated.
"We do not have information on the timelines. " He also noted that this scenario will lead the "Ministry of Women and Gender Equality to temporarily pause this decision to understand the effects of that leave, for which we have no knowledge and no information on the timelines. " "We cannot question what a medical professional states, but with this new information available, this matter is now paused," he concluded.
