A father and his two minor sons were detained on Friday following the death of a criminal who attempted to steal their vehicle moments earlier in the El Bosque area. According to police information, the incident occurred at the intersection of Patricio Lynch and Sargento Aldea, where upon the arrival of Carabineros, a male individual was found lying on his back, without vital signs. "Eventually, the initial information we have is that it was an attempted vehicle theft, according to the statements provided by the detainees to the Carabineros personnel," stated Commissioner Carlos Jorquera Catalán of the Southern Homicide Brigade of the PDI.
The criminal approached the victims through one of the rear doors of the vehicle, initiating a struggle with one of the sons. He pretended to carry a firearm inside a bag, while the three occupants of the vehicle pushed him out. The assailant did not stop and attempted a second time to enter the car, this time through the passenger door.
He was expelled again and subdued by the victims of the assault. Upon the arrival of police officers, the criminal showed no vital signs, leading to the arrest of the father and his two sons. "Our work is focused on establishing how the events occurred and, eventually, determining the responsibility of the detainees," emphasized the commissioner.
"What we know is that it was a circumstantial event where the father had come to drop off one of his sons at a residence in the area," he added. Through conducted investigations, it was established that the deceased was identified as N. M.
A. L. (27 years old) with a criminal record for theft, minor damages, and non-violent usurpation.
The Homicide Brigade of the PDI is investigating the case under the instruction of the Public Ministry.
