With a strong commitment to art and education, the organization La Gran Lucila, along with the Casa de las Artes Rural Lucila Godoy Alcayaga and the Municipality of Coquimbo, has launched the fifth edition of the Mistralian Festival "Dame la Mano 2026," an initiative aimed at preserving the educational and social legacy of Gabriela Mistral. The event will take place until April 24 at the Casa de las Artes Rural (in La Cantera), with a special emphasis this year on working with students from rural areas, reflecting Mistral's beginnings as a teacher. Activities include painting, music, and body expression workshops, artistic mediation sessions, and direct participation from educational communities, all aimed at linking art with real educational processes.
However, the festival is not only for students. It also features live music performances, puppet theater, literary creation contests, and musical adaptations of Mistralian poems, activities designed to engage with the work of the Nobel Prize winner through various artistic expressions. Mariana Palma, in charge of the Casa de las Artes Rural Lucila Godoy Alcayaga, highlighted the festival's focus: "To value Mistral's connection to the rural world, not only through literature but also through education and human rights.
It is a comprehensive view of her legacy. " The festival will conclude on April 24 with awards for participants, artistic showcases, and a performance by the regional band Sexto Sol. "This type of initiative addresses a historical gap, such as limited access to cultural activities in rural areas and the lower artistic offerings outside urban centers," added the event organizers.
