This Friday, a total of eight individuals were arrested following a series of raids conducted by Carabineros. The apprehended individuals are believed to be linked to various vehicle thefts under the "encerrona" modality, which occurred in the eastern and northern areas of the Metropolitan Region. The operation was led by the Vehicle Recovery and Search Service (SEBV), which raided nine homes located in the northern sector of the capital, in the municipalities of Huechuraba and Recoleta, including a liquor store in the La Pincoya neighborhood, where weapons, contraband cigarettes, drugs, and cash were seized.

The detainees are all Chilean, of legal age, and will be brought before the courts for offenses related to the arms control law, drug trafficking, receiving stolen goods, smuggling, and outstanding warrants they held. Prosecutor José Morales from the Centro Norte Prosecutor's Office stated that "a gang dedicated to car theft has been dismantled, and they have also participated in home robberies. It is a quite dangerous gang, as they have even shot at people and seized various vehicles in both the northern and eastern areas of the Metropolitan Region.

" Additionally, Colonel Rodrigo Arroyo, head of the SEBV Department, added that "the intervention of nine homes in the northern sector was achieved, and the arrest of eight individuals linked to various crimes was accomplished. " "This operation is directly related to various violent crimes that have affected the vehicle fleet in the last three months, where it has been established that this gang operates in the northern sector and is linked to at least 20 violent crimes of the 'encerrona' type," Arroyo added. One of the detainees is also believed to be connected to the attack on a member of the Investigative Police (PDI), who was injured, and where a criminal died in Quilicura.
