Former Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Luis Cordero, referred to the new communication misstep that government spokesperson Mara Sedini experienced yesterday regarding the case of Galvarino Apablaza, identified as the intellectual author of the murder of Senator Jaime Guzmán. During a statement from La Moneda, the minister claimed that the former member of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez was convicted for the crime of Jaime Guzmán, despite the fact that no sentence exists. This error did not go unnoticed, and criticism quickly followed.
In this context, in a conversation with Radio Universo, the former Justice Minister stated: “Chile is a rule of law, it has solid institutions for that purpose, and there are guarantees of due process. The spokesperson's statement yesterday certainly does not contribute, but I attribute it more to a communication error. ” He suggested that it is “convenient” for this error to be “corrected” to avoid affecting the strategy of the Chilean state.
“It is advisable to make some kind of correction, acknowledging that it was a lapse, because (Apablaza's defense) can use that argument, that there are no guarantees of due process in Chile,” he warned. “It is an error that would be good to amend, considering the strategy of the State of Chile,” concluded the former minister.
