The Municipality of La Serena has intensified inspections of nightlife venues in the historic center as part of a strategy to restore safety in the city center. This initiative follows the closure of an emblematic establishment, marking a turning point in municipal control policy. The closure of "El Bacano," located at the intersection of Brasil and O'Higgins streets, occurred after serious incidents, including a homicide inside the venue.

Inspections are focused on ensuring compliance with regulations. Mayor Daniela Norambuena made it clear that the goal is to prevent the operation of venues that are not in accordance with the law.
The operations are centered on verifying business licenses, authorized activities of the venue, safety and emergency conditions, and compliance with health regulations. The work is carried out in coordination with Carabineros de Chile. The municipality maintains that the city center has experienced a decline in safety.
The current administration aims to reverse this situation through constant inspection presence, inter-institutional coordination, and responses to citizen complaints. Gonzalo Arceu, the head of Citizen Security, indicated that controls will continue permanently. The issue extends beyond bars and nightclubs.
