During this session, the review of the precautionary measures for the three children of Julia Chuñil, a Mapuche leader who, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office, was allegedly murdered and subsequently buried by them, is taking place. The individuals involved are Javier Troncoso —who remains in preventive detention— and his siblings Jeanette Troncoso and Pablo San Martín, who are under house arrest and national arraigo. All three are charged with the crimes of parricide, robbery with violence, and illegal burial.
According to Mega Investiga, the defense of the accused, led by attorney Karina Riquelme, will argue that the forensic examinations conducted are inconclusive and lack decisive results. In this regard, the defense will insist that there is no material evidence directly linking the victim's children to the crime. Additionally, they will seek to challenge the validity of the testimonies provided by confidential witnesses.
According to the investigation led by prosecutor Tatiana Esquivel from Los Ríos, Chuñil's disappearance dates back to November 8, 2024. On that day, Javier Troncoso allegedly arrived at his mother's home inebriated. In this context, the accused allegedly threatened an elderly person with the initials N.
G. P. , who was under Chuñil's care, with a knife, intending to steal their pension —approximately 212,000 pesos.
The victim intervened to prevent the robbery, at which point her son allegedly threatened her life. According to the Prosecutor's theory, this situation escalated until Troncoso attacked her by surprise and suffocated her, causing her death. The Public Prosecutor's Office also maintains that Pablo San Martín and Jeanette Troncoso not only witnessed the homicide without providing assistance but also participated in covering up the crime by hiding the body and filing a false report.
