In an interview with BioBioChile, Senator Paulina Núñez (RN) stated that the government has already decided to modify the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (MEPCO) through a decree, thus ruling out any discussion of the change in Congress. According to the Senate president, the decision was made in recent hours following meetings with the Executive, in a context marked by concerns over rising fuel prices. The legislator indicated that this decision allows for the swift implementation of measures in response to a complex economic scenario.
Meanwhile, Núñez detailed that the Executive will indeed submit bills to Congress, which will focus on alleviating the economic impact on citizens. These initiatives aim to prevent significant increases in public transportation fares and the price of kerosene, especially in the lead-up to the winter months. The senator also warned of concerns regarding the effect that these increases may have on families, in a context influenced by international factors such as the conflict in the Middle East, which affects fuel price behavior.
