Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023) continues to show positive progress according to the medical report released this Saturday, while the Prosecutor's Office considers whether to support his transfer to house arrest. The far-right leader, 70 years old, is hospitalized in the intensive care unit due to bacterial pneumonia and is "under intravenous antibiotic treatment, intensive clinical support, and respiratory and motor physiotherapy," according to doctors. Bolsonaro has been hospitalized since last Friday when he experienced high fever and chills in the prison where he is serving his sentence for leading an attempted coup after losing the 2022 elections.

Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes requested the Prosecutor's Office on Friday to express its opinion on the advisability of granting the former president house arrest for humanitarian reasons, as his defense has been requesting for months. Once the Prosecutor's Office expresses its opinion, De Moraes will have the final word on the transfer of the inmate to his home in Brasília. The judge met this week with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son and a presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in October, along with other allies of the far-right leader to discuss this matter.

Bolsonaro has been suffering from various medical issues attributed to the stabbing he sustained in the abdomen during the 2018 election campaign, which has required him to undergo surgery multiple times.
