Paternity leave is part of the labor rights in force in Chile and aims to facilitate that fathers can accompany their families in the first days after the birth of a child. In addition to this leave, there are other state aids aimed at supporting families during the gestation process and in the first months of the newborn. According to information published by ChileAtiende, it is also possible to access medical care during the early stages of pregnancy and request various financial supports during the gestation period.

How many days off does a father have after childbirth? After the birth of a child, the father is entitled to a paid leave that includes five days off. This leave can be used at the parent's discretion from the moment of childbirth and, in this case, is taken continuously, excluding the weekly rest.

There is also the option to distribute the leave within the first month from the date of birth. How to request paternity leave? To activate the leave for the birth of a child, the worker must request it from their employer or their representative.

The employer cannot refuse this request, but they have the right to require proof of the event that justifies it, through the birth certificate issued by the Civil Registry and Identification Service.
