On the night of this Friday, a violent collision between a shared taxi and a pickup truck left one person dead and two seriously injured in La Cisterna, specifically at the intersection of La Granja and Américo Vespucio streets in that southern commune of the capital. According to information provided by Carabineros, the smaller vehicle was traveling south on La Granja when the pickup truck, which was traveling north on the same street, allegedly crossed the centerline. This caused a head-on impact and the death of the taxi driver, while the other two passengers sustained serious injuries, although they are not in life-threatening condition.
Lieutenant Matías Salgado Pino, an officer from the Santiago South Prefecture of Carabineros, detailed that the accident occurred around 10:40 PM and that one possible cause could be the rain that was falling at that time in the area. However, he clarified that this still needs to be investigated by the Traffic Accident Investigation Section (SIAT), which was working at the scene. Similarly, Lieutenant Pino confirmed that the Public Prosecutor's Office was notified of the collision and that the driver of the pickup truck "is currently detained for the death of the person," and that the police personnel "are carrying out the necessary procedures, including breathalyzer tests and other types of injury assessments.
