On April 1, 2026, personnel from the Port Captaincy of Puerto Williams participated in an interagency operation that led to the seizure of a foreign sailboat identified as "Tanana" in the Puerto Navarino area. The action was carried out in conjunction with the National Customs Service and the Chilean Investigative Police. The operation originated from an investigation that detected a violation of customs regulations, confirming that the vessel was engaged in activities under a temporary admission regime for profit, which contravenes current legislation in national territory.
The Port Captain of Puerto Williams, First Lieutenant René Rojas, explained that the vessel was conducting paid maritime trips. Meanwhile, the regional director of Customs, Reinhold Andronoff, stated that such cases involve vessels that declare entry for private use but later engage in commercial activities. The operation included the transportation of Customs and PDI personnel to the site aboard the LSR-4430 unit, enabling the seizure to take place in Puerto Navarino, located 54 kilometers west of Puerto Williams, where the vessel currently remains.
Customs emphasized that such procedures allow for the oversight of activities outside the legal framework, safeguard the safety of tourists, and ensure compliance with current regulations in the provision of services in maritime areas.
